Xiaomi Redmi 2 Unboxing and Impression Dual LTE 64bit Quad Core Smartphone

Few more days before the availability of the new Redmi 2 LTE in the Philippines. We got the review unit to check and here we unboxed and have our initial impression about the device.

At First glance there’s really no huge difference in actual build. the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is very similar from the previous Redmi 1s the but there are just some slight changes in terms of design. but it still uses the same plastic poly-carbonate texture similar with the Lumia devices.

Included in the Box is the battery, power adapter, USB 2.0 cable, warranty card and user guide.

First looking in front is the 2-megapixel front facing camera in the left side then the earpiece which has been change comparing from the Redmi 1s it’s now in the center rather than on the top most part of the screen. then the proximity and light sensor beside it.

While at the bottom is the 3 capacitive buttons the Menu, Home and Back buttons. the Display does not have a thin bezel but just ok for its size. it’s a 4.7″ fully laminated IPS HD Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 with 312ppi. the color temperature can be adjusted in the settings if you want to make it cold, warm or normal. Viewing angle is great and it’s almost zero gap from the display panel which I really love. The glass is also Scratch resistant AGC Dragontrail glass.

The capacitive buttons doesn’t have any backlit but it comes with a Notification LED light below the Home button which can also be controlled in the settings, like changing colors.

Looking at the Right side is the Power button and the Volume rocker for Up and Down. it has a silver color texture buttons. while the left side doesn’t have any buttons.

while at the bottom it has the Micro USB port plus the noise cancellation, the great thing about the Redmi 2 it has dual noise cancellation locations which the other one is located at the back on top of the camera.

speaking of back it comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with BSI and even in front then the LED flash on the left side and the speaker grill which also has been modified base from the previous Redmi 1s and the MI logo at the bottom.

Inside the back cover it reveals the Micro SD then the 2 Dual LTE Micro SIM Slot so it means both slots is capable of having an LTE connectivity but unfortunately it’s not hot swapable. The battery capacity is 2200mAh and has a Quick Charge 1.0 Technology which I will be testing out in the next upcoming days.

I’m surprise with the quality of the camera it was really sharp and HDR mode adds color dept to the photo here are some of the sample shots I’ve taken just click the image for the higg-resolution version.

At the top it comes with a 3.5mm Stereo Jack which is also a CTIA compliant.

Redmi 2 is using the Qualcomm MSM9816 64bit Quad Core 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and an 8GB of ROM but upon boot up it only has a remaining of 4GB of internal storage. but still expandable via Micro SD. it’s also a Dual LTE Dual Standby which supports FDD-LTE — Band 3 (1800 MHz) — Band 7 (2600 MHz) — Band 8 (900 MHz). But I will still confirmed if it works on our local telco’s like Globe or Smart LTE.

The device has tons of feature since it’s using a MIUI V6 already there are lots of enhancement added to that software which I will not tackle right now. it still using the Android 4.4.4 base ROM.

it’s a 7 multi-touch screen with 5 sensors (Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Digital Compass, Light Sensor and Proximity Sensor). it also comes with a Wifi, bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Glonass plus a OTG capable device. 🙂

In the initial benchmark of the Antutu it gave me a result of 19,647 which is not bad for a quad-core device. Overall the performance is very smooth the transitions are fluid. I tested out the Sou; Craft 2 which is a 3D graphics game and its playable although I did encounter some drop frames but the framerate is sufficient for the playability of the game.

So far the my initial impression I can say the Display and performance is way better than the Redmi 1s in case you still haven’t got the Redmi 1s and planning to purchase a redmi device well the Redmi 2 is a great choice so far. and totally the screen size is just right and the display is superb. Planning to buy ? this upcoming April 28, 2015 the Redmi 2 will be officially available in the Philippines at the Lazada online store to be sure to bookmark this page. it will sell for only Php5,999.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
