Motorola Announces Project Ara a Modular Smartphone
Maybe you have seen the viral video of Dave Hakkens the creator of phonebloks a conceptualize phone build for users who wants to build their ultimate phone. it was widely spread in social media and tech sites, because of the great concept and animation of the video.
Today Motorola Announces a same idea and concept that aims to developing a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones. as what Android did they create a opensource software so Projects Ara aims the same concept but putting it on a hardware base open source platform.
Sneak peek at early designs for Project Ara.
if this will be in reality it will totally be a game changer, users will be like upgrading only the specific specs that they want example, Camera, Keyboard, RAM, Display and many more. similar with the PC hardware you can do what you want and create your ultimate rig.
the Project Ara consists of what we call an endoskeleton (endo) and modules. The endo is the structural frame that holds all the modules in place.
if you want to join the community feel free to visit the Project Ara research scouts (volunteers interested in helping us learn about how people make choices)
We anticipate an alpha release of the Module Developer’s Kit (MDK) sometime this winter.
and take note Motorola is already a Google Company that’s why they aim to become Open Source 😀
